XRP trading on Coinbase.com, Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Exchange was suspended in all regions at 10:00 AM PST on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
This was because the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission accused Ripple Labs of illegally making more than $1.3 billion in profits by offering digital asset securities that were not registered with the SEC.
For its part, Ripple Labs argues that XRP is not a security, so it should be exonerated. The litigation between the SEC and Ripple Labs is currently ongoing.
You can still deposit and withdraw XRP from your Coinbase account. Although XRP funds will be safely stored in your account after trading is suspended, you will not be able to buy Ripple, sell or convert. Currently, it has not affected to Coinbase Custody and Coinbase Wallet in any way.
